Fun Activities for Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo may have originated in Mexico, but you definitely do not have to be Mexican or to be able to trace your heritage to that country in order to enjoy Cinco de Mayo and celebrate it to the fullest extent. After all, you certainly don't have to be Irish to celebrate St. Patrick's Day; and just like that holiday, Americans have taken up Cinco de Mayo as their own and it is now actually more popular in this country than it is in the land of its origin!

There are a lot of different kinds of activities for Cinco de Mayo, which people choose to commemorate this holiday with. Naturally, there are parades and performance of Mexican music and dance as well as a great deal of Mexican food and beverages being served on this day. In fact, for many people, cooking (and of course eating) Mexican cuisine is one of the most important parts of any Cinco de Mayo celebration.

However, as important as food and drink are to a Cinco de Mayo party, there are other activities, which are popular with people celebrating the holiday. Listening to Mexican music and dancing are also activities for Cinco de Mayo, which a great many people take part in during holiday celebrations. Mariachi is a traditional choice, but many others enjoy meringue, salsa, Tejano and other more modern styles of music from Mexico.

As it happens, you can find any kind of music you happen to like hailing from the other side of the Rio Grande with ease, especially if you live in a larger city which has one or more record shops which cater to the Mexican-American community.

There are also some popular party games, which are, appropriate for Cinco de Mayo celebrations, perhaps none more so than break the piņata; this is a game, which you are probably at least somewhat familiar with. Children and adults alike will have a wonderful time with this, one of the favorite activities for Cinco de Mayo for people of all ages.

You might also choose to celebrate this holiday by attending one of the many large official Cinco de Mayo celebrations held in cities all over the country. No matter where you happen to live, there is almost certainly some sort of Cinco de Mayo event located nearby; these events will feature plenty of entertainment, activities and of course, food and drink from Mexico.

There are a lot of activities for Cinco de Mayo to choose from. No matter what you choose to do to celebrate on the fifth of May this year, you definitely will not lack for choices; or opportunities to have a great time saluting the nation and the people of Mexico.
