Ideas for Cinco de Mayo Decorations
Cinco de Mayo is a holiday which is immensely popular all over the United States; more so than anywhere else in the world, even in Mexico where the holiday got its start! As Cinco de Mayo becomes more widely celebrated each year, there are a growing number of people hosting parties to commemorate the day - and you may well be one of them yourself.
If you are holding your very first Cinco de Mayo fiesta, then you may be looking for some ideas for appropriate Cinco de Mayo decorations to set the right theme for the day. If so, then you have come to the right place - keep reading for some ideas on how to dress up your home for this festive occasion.
Even though there are no hard and fast rules on what is and is not an acceptable decoration for this holiday, there are some basic rules, which can get you, started off in the right direction. For instance, the colors green, red, and white are always appropriate for a Cinco de Mayo party, since these are, as you probably know, the colors of the Mexican flag. It is the perfect color scheme for this Mexican patriotic holiday, so you will never go wrong with some red, white, and green streamers, balloons or other decorative items.
One of the traditional Cinco de Mayo, decorations, which you will often see in Mexico’s Puebla state and elsewhere in Mexico where the holiday is celebrated, are tissue paper flowers, often in the colors of the flag of Mexico. These flowers are easy to make and if you have children, they will enjoy helping to make plenty of them to festoon your home with before your guests arrive.
Some other ideas to decorate your home (or any other location where you will be hosting your Cinco de Mayo party) are to add some items, which are traditionally associated with Mexico. For example, miniature sombreros make excellent Cinco de Mayo decorations; you can even use them as party favors for your guests. If your budget allows, you could do the same with full-size versions of these hats, essentially turning yourself and your guests into decorations for your Cinco de Mayo party!
Another good idea for decorations, which can double as Cinco de Mayo, party favors are small potted cacti. Not only do these give your party a south of the border look and feel, but you can send them home with your guests, who will appreciate these lovely, easy to care for houseplants. Any type will do, but children especially love the more colorful varieties; just remember to tell your guests (especially the younger ones) to be cautious about handling these Cinco de Mayo decorations!
